 Gov. Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa on Thursday inaugurated two ultra modern rice mills, as part of efforts to accelerate rice production in the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mills were established at Hadejia and Kafin-Hausa local government councils of the state. The governor, while inaugurating mills, said that his administration promised to establish two additional mills in Hadejia, before the end of 2016. He said the measure was part of effort to encourage paddy rice production and processing with a view to add value to the produce. The governor explained that the state government had adopted effective measures to encourage investment in agriculture and mobilise participation in rice cultivation. The new agriculture initiative of the Oyo State Government has received a  boost with the proposed investment by   an Australian agro-processing   company, which has already acquired 50 hectares of land in the Oke Ogun  area of   the state. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday said the Mambila Plateau in Taraba had the potential of becoming the hub of tea production in Africa. Obasanjo was speaking in Jalingo when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Darius Ishaku of the state. ABUJA- LOCAL producers of milk in the country has guaranteed production of 50 million litres of milk to meet consumers' demand. This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer, Land Z Integrated Farms, Muhammed Abubakar, while he lamented the huge importation of dairy products at the detriment of local producers. Abubakar said local producers has the capacity to cut down such importation if the enabling environment was provided by the government, which local herdsmen could be integrated in the value chain process going by the available record of could guarantee over 20 million cattle according to the 1991 animal census conducted. Niger state government has allocated 30,000 hectares of land in Bobi community, Mariga Local Government Area as grazing reserve for herders. Governor Abubakar Sani Bello disclosed this during a meeting with the national leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBA) in Minna yesterday. Besides the one already provided, the governor also promised to open up additional grazing reserves in designated locations across the state. The governor said, the steps taken is aimed at ending farmers/herders clash in the state. He said the Bobi grazing reserve is enough to accommodate half of the cattle in the state. Alhaji Bello said facilities such as veterinary clinic, water and adequate feeds will be provided at the Bobi grazing reserve in order to keep them intact.
