77 YAGEP trainees get 154 fish ponds, cash grants in Delta


77 participants of the Delta State 2016 Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme, YAGEP, were yesterday given fish ponds following the completion of their training programme under the Job Creation office of the state government.

The beneficiaries aside getting a N50,000 starting capital, would also receive a N15, 000 monthly stipend and a N60,000 interest free loan which would be paid back in a span of two years.

Briefing newsmen at Ugbokodo-Okpe, Delta State, the Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof Eric Eboh stated that the Ugbokodo-Okpe fish cluster farm is one of the 5 fish cluster farms in the 2016 YAGEP circle.

According to him, the beneficiaries having been trained for the past three months at the Songhai Delta, Amukpe with internship at various fish farms in the state, have been equipped as entrepreneurs to become employers of labour in the society.

He said: "We are giving out 154 ponds at two ponds per YAGEPreneurs. Upon maturity at table size, each pond would make a harveat of 1000 fishes.


"The YAGEP programme is in line with the vision of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in tackling youth unemployment according to his SMART agenda."
