Ogun State collaborates with Federal Government , World Bank on agric equipment

The Ogun State in collaboration with the Federal Government and World Bank has acquired agricultural equipment under the third National Fadama Development Project to increase food production in the State.
The procured equipments are four tractors and implements as well as a mini rice combined harvester.
The commissioner for agriculture Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo represented by the Ministry’s permanent secretary, Mr. Steve Ipinniwa at the commissioning of the first fadama agricultural equipment hiring centre at Oke-Eri,Ijebu North East, says these facilities are being replicated at Sawonjo in Yewa North Local Government Area, and will be commissioned soon.
Ipiniwa added that these mechanization facilities if well managed will contribute greatly to agricultural transformation of the State thereby ensuring food security and industrialization of the State in particular and Nigeria in general.
Also, the acting State project coordinator, Engineer Mathew Adebayo appreciated the State government's effort in paying the fund required for the state contribution for agricultural development referred to as the State counterpart fund.
He however urged the beneficiaries to manage the equipment judiciously ,adding that with all the facilities and infrastructure, food security ,industrialization and employment are assured.

10,000 women farmers to be engaged in ECOWAS rice project – official

 Mr Richard Olafare, the President, Seed Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria (SEEDAN) says 10,000 women will be engaged in the recently inaugurated Rice Seed Up-Scaling Project. This is contained in a presentation on the project made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday. Olafare said 8,000 youths would also be engaged in the scaling project. According to him, the number of women and youths represented 50 per cent and 40 per cent respectively of the 20,000 farmers that will participate in the project. NAN reports that the project is an initiative of the West Africa Seed Programme (WASP) in support of the ECOWAS Rice Offensive Programme that was inaugurated in 2014.
