Birniwa LG immunises 2, 560 animals against diseases

The Birniwa Local Government Council in Jigawa on Wednesday said that it had immunised 2, 560 animals against zoonotic diseases in the ongoing vaccination programme.

Malam Garba Hassan, the Programme Officer, made the remark while reviewing the progress of the 2016 animal vaccination exercise in Birniwa.
Hassan said that the animals, which included cattle, sheep and goats, were immunised against diseases at Kumsa, Birniwa and Kazura centres.
``Dogs were also immunised against rabies,” the official said.
Hasan said that more animals were expected to be immunised, as the exercise continued at various designated immunisation centres in the area.
The official said that the state's Ministry of Agriculture had provided adequate drugs, and deployed personnel for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
According to him, the exercise is designed to enhance animal healthcare delivery, and encourage livestock production.
Malam Jibril Hamidu, a cattle breeder, lauded the state government over the exercise.
Hamidu commended the development of grazing lands, cattle routes and the establishment of veterinary clinics by the state government.
He said that the gesture had improved the well being of animals and herdsmen in the state.
