Nigeria’s Leading Agro FirmsSupport Tuns Farms on NEGPRO
Leading operators in
the agricultural sector in Nigeria have expressed theircommitment to support
Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited in its role as consultant and manager to the Federal
Government on the National Egg Production (NEGPRO) scheme. The latest major
agricultural industry operators to back the scheme include Livestock Feeds PLC
and Turner Wright Limited.
In a message to the
management of Tuns Farms Limited, Managing Director of Livestock Feeds PLC,Mrs.
ModupeAsanmo, referredto NEGPRO as a “laudable programme which we believe will
transform the poultry industry in Nigeria and will indeed enable the industry
to fully achieve its potential as a major source of revenue and employment
generation for the country”.
According to Mrs.
Asanmo, Livestock Feeds Plc,a subsidiary of UAC Nigeria Plc and presently the
only commercial feed milling company quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange,
will support Tuns Farms Limited to ensure that the NEGPRO scheme succeeds in
every part of the nation. “Livestock Feeds Plc operates two owned plants which
are strategically located in Ikeja and Aba with a joint production capacity of
23mt/hour, while a Toll milling arrangement with Grand Cereals Limited takes
care of our operations in the North and Onitsha axis (Edo, Delta, Anambra,
Enugu and Ebonyi), making us available and visible pan Nigeria” she pointed
out.
The Livestock Feeds
boss expressed her company’s desire to fully participate in the NEGPRO scheme
both as a supplier of finished feed and concentrate; also as a member of the
Scheme Technical Committee (STC).
In a similar
development, Turner Wright Limited, a leading producer of animal health and
animal nutrition productsin Nigeria has sent a solidarity message to Tuns Farms
Limited following the company’s appointmentby the Federal Government as a
consultant and manager of the NEGPRO scheme.
Dr. Tunde
WaheedLawal, Managing Director of Turner Wright Limited, noted that his company
is ready to put its wealth of experience in the animal health and nutrition
subsector at the disposal of Tuns Farms to ensure the successful implementation
of NEGPRO scheme. Tuner Wright Limited had, in 2006, established the first indigenous
pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Nigeria dedicated to veterinary
pharmaceuticals.
It will be recalled
that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited two
weeks ago in Abuja signed a twenty five billion naira (N25bn) agreement on
NEGPRO scheme to be financed by the Bank of Industry (BOI). The agreement was
signed on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
by the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Chief AuduOgbeh
and the Chairman of Tuns Farms Limited AsiwajuOlatundeBadmus.
As part of its role
as manager of the scheme, Tuns farms Limited will recommend eligible
entrepreneurs to access the N25 billion facility through the Bank of Industry
(BOI). The company will also develop customized and standard feed concentrate
for the scheme to ensure uniformity.
In addition, the
company will recommend standard specification and costing for the scheme,
monitor activities of entrepreneurs involved in the Scheme, support the Bank of
Industry (BOI) through the National Technical Committee in the selection
process of commercial banks to disburse and recoup the 25 billion Naira anchor
borrower facility from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as well as select
entrepreneurs/stakeholders across the country for recommendation to the
Technical Committee for final ratification and appointment to participate in
the scheme.
