62 cooperative groups receive FADAMA fund for increased yield in Anambra

Awka- ABOUT 62 cooperative societies in eight local government areas in Anambra State are to be funded under the FADAMA 111 progrqamme to enable them increase food production in the state.

Anambra State commissioner for agriculture, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, while addressing farmers during a pre-loan disbursement training in Awka yesterday, said that the state government has already paid its counterpart funds that qualifies it to access the loan from the donor agency.

He said the state government would continue to encourage the farmers, assuring them that there are ready markets for their produce, which would help them to enjoy the fruit of their labour.

He said: “Our desire is that our farmers should make money because we believe that empowering farmers would ensure sustainable development.”

According to him, FADAMA has come to stay in the state as the state government would always endeavour to meet its obligations to the international body, even as he explained that it would not be business as usual in the agricultural sector as was the case in the past.

At the training, the farmers were informed that one of the conditions to qualify them to access the fund was formation of cooperative societies and arming themselves with business plans containing the name of the group, farm site, size of the farm and members of each group.
They are also expected to provide their counterpart fund to be lodged in a dedicated account before they could access the FADAMA fund.
