Jigawa Govt. begins sale of fertiliser to Fadama farmers


The Jigawa Government has begun the sale of 600,000 tons of assorted fertiliser to Fadama farmers under the cluster programme.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Kabiru Ali, announced the start of the sale of the commodity at an event in Dutse on Sunday.
Ali said that the fertiliser would be sold at a subsidised rate of N3, 000 per bag to the farmers.
He explained that the fertiliser would be sold to the farmers based on the number of hectares they own.
The commissioner said that three bags of fertiliser - two NPK and one Urea would be allocated to each hectare "depending on the hectares a farmer has.
``If you have ten hectares, we give you 30 bags, and if you have half a hectare, then we give you one and a half bags.’’
According to him, the gesture is to ensure that each of the farmers gets the commodity based on demand.
Ali said that the supply of the commodity was also to ensure that they got adequate quantity for application on their farms,.
He said that fertiliser played a very crucial role in boosting agricultural production, especially when adequately and timely applied.
He stated that the commodity will be sold at Birnin Kudu, Hadejia, Ringim, and Kazaure zonal offices of the Jigawa State Agricultural and Rural Development Agency.
The commissioner cautioned farmers against buying the commodity at a rate above N3, 000.

He also advised farmers not to give money outside the N3,000 to anyone just to facilitate the purchase of the commodity. (NAN)
