NGO to donate farm inputs to 1, 200 Taraba IDPs returnees


The Africa Conflict and Security Analysis Network (ACSAN), an NGO, has promised to donate farm inputs to 1,200 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) returnees in Taraba to enable them commence farming.
The Founder and Director of the NGO, Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo, made the promise in a statement made available to newsmen in Jalingo on Tuesday.
``You will appreciate that most of the IDPs lost everything during the crisis and now that the people are returning, they will need help to enable them have a source of livelihood.
``Many of the returnees are farmers and the grains, seedlings and herbicides will help them to quickly return to normal lives in no distant future.
``We are reaching out to IDPs` returnees in Wukari, Ibi and Donga in Southern zone and Bali, Gashaka and Gassol in Central zone.
``Because of their numbers, we have selected only 200 families per Local Government in the two zones and government should assist in this regard, `` Barkindo said.
The NGO`s director appealed to government, corporate bodies and rich individuals to assist the IDPs` returnees with seedlings, grains and herbicides to settle down on their farms.
He commended the Taraba Government for the restoration of peace to the hitherto troubled areas in the state.
He, however, noted that the immediate need of the IDPs was how to begin a new lease of life as many of them had lost everything during the crisis
