Don charges Nigerians to have positive attitudes toward agriculture

A food and animal scientist, Prof. Babatunde Jagun, on Wednesday advised Nigerians to change embrace agriculture ‎and have positive attitudes to national issues for the expected change to happen.
‎Jagun, a retired professor of food and animal medicine, said this at the second International Conference organised by the School of Agriculture, Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference is titled: ``Revamping Nigerian Agriculture ‎through Public Private Sector Synergy’’.
He said ‎corruption in the minds of people had been a factor hindering the progress of the country.
``But if the attitude changes, things will work out.
``When the minds of Nigerians are properly tutored to the direction of not keeping public funds as personal, then, things will change.
``Government agencies should also ensure that funds voted for the implementation of a policy are spent judiciously,’’ he said.
According to Jagun, the neglect of agriculture is caused by the faulty implementation of the policies in the sector.
‎He said the body language of the present government was positive and that stakeholders in the agriculture sector were optimistic that things would work well.
The professor emeritus urged the government to revamp the sector through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
He also appealed to the government to create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs to thrive in the sector.
Jagun pointed out that revamping the agricultural sector ``is a sure solution to the current oil crisis, unemployment and insecurity among other challenges confronting the nation’’.
