Farmers get 19,096 bags of subsidised fertiliser in Malumfashi, Kaduna

The Katsina State Government has allocated 19, 096 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state for the 2016 season at subsidised rate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the government gave the farmers the fertiliser at the subsidised rate of N2, 700 for Urea and N2, 500 for NPK per bag.
Alhaji Ibarahim Bako, the Malumfashi Local Government Distribution Committee chairman, disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview with the NAN in Malumfashi.
He said that 88 bags of fertiliser were allocated to each of the 217 polling units across the 12 political wards in the area.
He said that the ward and polling unit distribution committee distributed the fertiliser to ensure transparent sales, adding that government intended to cushion the hardship faced on farming inputs.
Bako explained that the administration of Gov. Aminu Masari would increase the quantity of fertiliser next season in recognition of the population of farmers in the state.
He said that proper logistics were designed to ensure that the commodity reach the targeted areas and were distributed to all farmers irrespective of political affiliations.
Two Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Malumfashi, Alhaji Yahuza Musa and Alhaji Aminu Lawal, commended the leadership of the committees on transparent distribution of the products to genuine farmers at the grassroots.
NAN reports that a cross section of farmers have complained on the manner of compilation of beneficiaries names as well as the delayed in the sales, adding that the commodity was expected two months ago.
Some farmers, Malam Jabiru Haiba, Sabi’u Halliru and Abubakar Nagambo told NAN that sales was overdue as government should have made the product available two months ago.
The farmers alleged that fertiliser dealers besieged the selling points and bought the fertiliser from people as many of the beneficiaries have completed fertiliser application on their farms while some of the beneficiaries were not farmers.
NAN Correspondent further reports that each beneficiary presented his voter card at his polling units and was conducted on first to come first to register bases with limit of 88 persons per polling unit.
