Jigawa Govt. inaugurates two rice mills to boost production


 Gov. Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa on Thursday inaugurated two ultra modern rice mills, as part of efforts to accelerate rice production in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mills were established at Hadejia and Kafin-Hausa local government councils of the state.
The governor, while inaugurating mills, said that his administration promised to establish two additional mills in Hadejia, before the end of 2016.
He said the measure was part of effort to encourage paddy rice production and processing with a view to add value to the produce.
The governor explained that the state government had adopted effective measures to encourage investment in agriculture and mobilise participation in rice cultivation.
Abubakar added that government had also allocated lands to Dangote Group to enable it set up rice plantations and processing plant to boost production in the state.
``We are geared toward promote investment; introduce modern farming and processing technologies to the farmers.
``Also, government introduced various farmers’ support programmes to encourage production and enhance enterprising skills,” he said.
The governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to implement sound programmes to transform agriculture, reduce poverty and enhance wealth creation in the society.
On road projects, he said that his administration had embarked on various projects to open up rural communities and ease movement of farm produce to the markets.
He said government had worked out modalities to complete various road projects abandoned by the immediate past administration in the state.
NAN reports that the inauguration was part of activities lined up for the 25th anniversary of the state.
