Ogun Govt. collaborates with cotton growers to enhance production, wealth creation


 The Ogun Government on Tuesday said it would collaborate with cotton growers in the state towards ensuring massive production of cotton in commercial quantity for more wealth creation.
The Governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun, said this in Abeokuta when he received members of the state branch of Cotton Growers Association of Nigeria who visited him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the delegation was led by Dr Akinwunmi Olumuyiwa, a director in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
Represented by Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, the state`s Deputy Governor, Amosun said his administration would provide necessary assistance to the cotton growers.
He said that was borne-out of the economic opportunities inherent in cotton production
According to him, doing so will further enhance the planned diversification of the state’s economy through agriculture.
The governor added that the steps would go a long way in generating more revenue for the state aside its potential of generating employment opportunities for youths.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to the provision of more incentives to farmers with a view to encouraging them to boost cash and food crop production.
Speaking earlier, Olumuyiwa said the association had discovered new species of cotton in the state.
He said the new species would offer great economic benefits to the state in particular and the nation in general
