Daura women farmers appeal to govt for rice processing equipment

Women farmers in Daura Local Government, Katsina State have appealed to the State and Federal Government to provide them with rice processing facilities, to encourage rice production in the area.

The women, under the auspices of `Women Wing in Rice Production’ also urged the government to always give priority to women farmers in the distribution of farming inputs and implements.

Hajiya Lubabatu Daura, the chairperson of the organization told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Daura on Monday, that the women were particularly “in dire need of rice processing machines”.

“We cultivate many hectares of land but we had to take our rice to the neighbouring Kazaure Local Government in Jigawa for processing,” she said.

Lubabatu said if empowered, her members would equally contribute to the diversification of the economy and in enhancing food security in the country.

She urged politicians to also give priority to the provision of scholarship for students and in the skills training of youth to be self reliant.

Lubabatu commended the initiatives of Katsina State Government on renovation and reconstruction of schools, stressing that education is the bedrock of societal development.
