Rice farming: Zamfara Govt. registers 200 women farmers’ associations

The Zamfara government has registered over 200 women farmers associations across the state for the 2017 dry season rice farming.

The Special Adviser to the state governor on Zamfara State Comprehensive Agricultural Revolution Program (ZACAREP), Alhaji Aminu Dankwangila, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen on Monday in Gusau.

He said that the registration was done under the ZACAREP and the Anchor Borrowers agric programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Dankwangila said that the associations were among those to be given loans for the 2017 dry season rice farming, from both the state government and the CBN.

“We involved women farmers associations in these programmes considering their high number in rural areas of the state and the way they show their interest and dedication to farming and agric businesses.

“As we do to all farmers associations registered in the state, we sensitise them on modern agriculture in line with the guidelines given to us both by the state government and the CBN.

“Each of the women farmers associations registered has 10 to 15 members who are going to be supported with loans of agric inputs and cash individually, and the loans will be disbursed to farmers very soon,” he said.

According to him, the state government has set aside billions of naira to finance its ZACAREP programme as part of its commitment to implementing the federal government policy of reviving the nation’s agricultural sector.

Dankwangila said that the ZACAREP was introduced to the state during the administration of former governor, Alhaji Ahmad Sani, and reintroduced by the present administration.

He said this was done considering the great contributions it made to agricultural production and food supply across the country.

The special adviser, therefore, urged all farmers in the state to utilise the capacity building impacted on them and loans that would be given to them in order to achieve government goals and objectives of initiating the programmes. (NAN)
