Association urges Rivers Govt. to support farmers to produce more fruits

Mr Victor Eze, the Chairman, Fruits and Vegetables Marketers Association, Rivers branch, on Monday, called on the state government to support farmers to cultivate more fruits and vegetables.
He made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.
He also urged the state government to assist the farmers with improved seeds, fertilisers and pesticides to enhance productivity.
The chairman further urged the state government to continue to support the Rivers State Sustainable Development Programme (RSSD) in Ubimili
community, managed by Sam Callous Farm company.
He added that ``if the state government partners with more companies like Sam Callous Farm and revamps the Songhi Farm which has not been producing any food for some time, there will be more fruits in the state.''
Eze said members of the Union had been buying cucumber, water melon, tomatoes, pineapple and more from Sam Callous Farm and hope to get more of such farms for improved supply. (
