Agric stakeholders commend FG on NEGPRO scheme

ABUJA- Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have thrown their weight behind Federal Government’s egg production initiative under the National Egg Production, NEGPRO, scheme recently launched.
The stakeholders said this in Abuja following the N25 billion Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed on the NEGPRO scheme, which was signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on behalf of the federal government and the Chairman, Tuns Farms Limited, Asiwaju Olatunde Badmus, for his company, and the scheme to be financed by the Bank of Industry, BoI.
The Executive Director, Chi Farms, Mr. Martin Middernacht, said the move by the government for introducing the scheme was commendable and a timely initiative that would boost the nation’s food security and nutrition, particularly for the school feeding programme.
Middernacht said: “We in the agricultural sector are pleased with this laudable initiative of the Federal Government to come up the National Egg Production, NEGPRO, scheme at this time and it is an indication of kick-starting diversification of the economy.
“And as a leading producer of day old chicks in Nigeria we give our support for the scheme and Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, signed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited as consultant and manager of the scheme the successful implementation of the initiative.”
Similarly, former Zonal Vice President, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Clement Okonjo, expressed optimism over the scheme and said implementation of the NEGPRO scheme will boost the economy and build up the poultry industry in particular.
“We commend the Federal Government of Nigeria for this laudable project which, we believe, will change the face of the poultry industry in Nigeria.
“For Tuns Farms we also congratulate you on the enormous strides you have been making in the effort to build the poultry industry in Nigeria. We have followed your success story with the Osun State Programme for Children Feeding, which have enabled you reach an agreement with the Federal Government for same purpose”, Okonjo added.
