AFAN sells fertiliser at N3,000 per bag to farmers in Kaduna

The Kaduna State branch of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) said it had procured 60, 000 bags of assorted fertilisers for sale to its members across the state.
The AFAN state chairman, Nuhu Aminu, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kaduna.
He said that already 10 tonnes or 6, 000 bags of the commodity had been delivered to members of the association at N3, 000 per bag.
Aminu said the measure became necessary in order to address the shortage of the commodity being experienced by farmers in the state.
``The rainy season had already set in and we are yet to receive adequate fertilisers for the cropping season as promised by the government.`` he said.
The AFAN chairman said that three weeks after the State Government had launched the sales of fertiliser for the 2016 cropping season, the commodity was yet to be available for sale to farmers.
NAN recalls that the State Government had on May 20 launched the fertiliser sales in Giwa local government area and pegged the price at N4,000 per bag.
The State government had entered into an arrangement with the Flour Mills Nigeria Ltd to supply 70, 000 metric tonnes of the commodity to farmers in the state.
However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna Agricultural Development Programme (KADP), Dahiru Abdullahi, told NAN that the supply had begun.
Dahiru said the state government was making effort to ensure that the commodity meant for farmers in the state was not diverted.
He assured the farmers that the state government had taken adequate measures to speed up the supply.
