Tambuwal calls for review of food importation policy.

Gov. Aminu Tambawal of Sokoto state on Monday urged the Federal Government to review the policy on food importation into the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tambawal made the call while receiving the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, retired Col. Hameed Ali, at Government House, Sokoto.
He said: ''The Federal Government's policy on the ban of rice importation through the land borders should be reviewed.''
The governor said that the Federal Government should allow the importation of food items into the country, so as to boost food sufficiency.
Earlier, Ali had called on the state government to assist in sensitising the people on the need to cooperate with the officers and men of the service deployed to various parts of the state.
Ali said that such support would ensure the arrest and prosecution of all those engaged in the illegal importation of weapons into the country.
He said that the service was all out to prevent all kinds of smuggling activities, saying that competent officers and men had been assigned to manage all the porous borders.
The Customs boss also solicited the support of traditional rulers, especially those at the border communities, on the need to offer intelligence reports on the movement of smugglers.
