Fadama III AF plays vital role in Anambra's Farmers Information Mgt. - Commissioner

Mr Afam Mbanefo, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Anambra, said that Fadama III Additional Financing (AF) had played a vital role in state's Farmers Information Management S
ystem (FIMS).
Mbanefo, who  disclosed this in an interview  on Saturday, said  that FIMS is a platform initiated by Gov. Willie Obiano to manage all farmers’ activities through a collected database and close relationship with them.
He said that Fadama III had done a lot in this programme in terms of the analysis, designed and financial support for farmers through the project.
According to him, the state started this programme immediately the governor assumed office, said this had helped in monitoring farmers activities and challenges in the state.
``The governor sees figures and report of activities of farmers through this project before developing a solution to solve their problems where the need arises.
``The farmers’ data were collected according to their local government areas and we built on them,’’ he said.
The Commissioner said that the module had worked for the state and they have been communicating with the farmers on the platform without stress‎.
He added that the governor could reach the farmers directly through register voice call and send it to the farmers, as well as text messages too.
``We manage farmer's cooperative and trace their produce to the source by using GPS to get the location of the farm,’’ he said.
Mbanefosaid  that the state had started exported vegetables to the European countries in line with the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) guidelines and traceable method.
``The traceable method monitors institution that wants to export products to outside the country for proper scrutiny and meeting approved standard.
``This is done in order to know if any exported vegetable has problem, it could be traced to a particular farmer.
``We showcased everything our farmers do, so the investors can come over to invest which will increase their income and boost the country’s economy,’’ he added.
He called on the farmers to key into this programme because of its benefits.‎
``Farmers are quite many and spread across the state and getting them validated is hard sometimes.
``Although, the governor has just provided us with vehicles and motorcycles to ease our movement but there is still more to be done,” he said.
