Plateau Govt. still consulting over establishment of ranches- Commissioner

The Plateau Government, on Wednesday, said that it was still consulting with stakeholders on the establishment of ranches to address farmers and herdsmen clashes.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Jafaru Wuyep, said this in Jos when he briefed newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden.
It will be recalled that some youths in Plateau took to the streets on Monday, to protest the planned donation of land for grazing reserves.
However, the commissioner said that the state government was still consulting with stakeholders, adding that a decision would be taken after the consultations.
According to him, the state government will only take decision based on the resolutions reached with the stakeholders.
``You will understand that grazing policy was initiated by the Federal Government and states are expected to key into it.
``The Presidency said that those interested should indicate interest and go back and consult with its stakeholders.
``But if you don't indicate interest and you go ahead and consult by the time you return the doors may be closed, `` he said.
NAN recalls that the State House of Assembly had on Monday summoned the State’s Commissioners for Information and Agriculture to appear before it and brief the house on the issue of grazing reserves.
