Ebonyi Govt., Idam Group sign MoU on poultry management


The Ebonyi Government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Idam Group of Companies to manage and improve the state’s poultry farm in Abakaliki.

Mr Augustine Nwankwegu, state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, said that by the MoU the company and its foreign partners would refurbish and expand state poultry farm for enhanced production.
“The Idam Group of companies and its foreign partners indicated interest and we negotiated with them in consummating the MoU.
``The MoU authorizes them to commence the repair, refurbishing, putting into use the hatchery farm.
“This arises from the understanding and determination of the governor to boost agriculture and the state internally generated revenue,” he said.
He said that the state was faced with paucity of fund to execute its various development initiatives and decided to look inwards to develop alternative means to source for funds.
Nwankwegu explained that studies were conducted and an agreement reached by both parties before the MoU was signed.
He added that if after one year no positive result was recorded, the agreement would be cancelled.
Mr Bernard Odoh, Secretary to the state Government, said that the state government was eager to encourage business cooperation and relationship with companies in areas that would benefit both parties.
According to him, the company will fund the project, which is expected to last for twenty five years, and it is expected to yield positive result.
“We are very eager to encourage business corporations and to go into a relationship that will benefit our people and the companies.
``MoU is different from action, so we will want to have action on ground, “he said.
Mr Emmanuel Idam, the company’s President and CEO, said that work has commenced on the project while fresh survey for good network of road at the farm was in progress.
Idam noted that the partnership agreement was for twenty five years and the company was investing N6 billion on the project.
According to him, the company is into aviation, shipping, engineering and basically agriculture and mining.
“The project is in segments, there will be some infrastructural repairs, building of fresh once, clearing and bringing in of livestock. The project will start before one year, ‘’Idam said.
Mr Uchenna Oji, Commissioner for Agriculture, said that the project, located on thirty six hectares’ of land with good facilities, was the ministry’s contribution.
NAN reports that the SSG signed on behalf of the state government while Idam signed for Idam group.
