NGO, ESUT to train 2,500 youths on agriculture entrepreneur

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Africa Youth Rehabilitation Initiative (AYRI) says it will collaborate with the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) to train 2,500 youths on agriculture entrepreneur.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of the initiative, Mr George Akwada, in Enugu on Thursday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The statement said that the organisation would train 500 youth from each of the South East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States as what it called `agripreneurs.’
It said that youths, who successfully undergo the training, would be given start up kits to enable them set up their own agric business.
The statement explained that AYRI was a non-profit organisation with the primary focus on rehabilitation of youths in Nigeria and Africa.

“AYRI offers youths of Africa the needed hope, confidence and tools to aspire for the highest realms of achievement in their chosen endeavours,” it said.
The statement said that the programme would be launched on June 6 at the Prof. Julius Onah Auditorium, Agbani Campus of ESUT.
“The initiative will promote youth involvement in agriculture and enhance their capacity to deploy scientific knowledge, information and technology for the growth of agribusiness in the South East” it said.

It regretted that the Federal Government failed to include youth in its efforts to boost agricultural production as a way to diversify the Nigerian economy as well as create employment and ensuring food security.
