Sokoto govt. launches sale of 9000 tonnes of fertiliser


 Sokoto State Government on Tuesday said it had purchased 9,000 tonnes of fertiliser for sale to farmers at subsidised rate.
The State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambawal, disclosed this at the flag-off of fertilser sale in Silame Local Government Area of the state.
Tambuwal, who announced that a bag of the commodity would be sold at 70 per cent subsidy, said the state government had spent N1.2 billion to purchase the commodity.
He said the state government had subsidized the commodity to enable farmers enhance their production.
``The SSP brand, which cost the government N6,400 per bag, will be sold at N2,100, Urea brand will be sold at
N2,300, while NPK will cost only N2,200.''
Tambuwal said that the state government would not relent in its efforts to improve agriculture to ensure food security.
The governor said the state government had also purchased 19,620 bags rice seeds for distribution to farmers for the wet and dry season farming.
``In the same vein, certified seeds of onions and lettuce have been sourced for distribution to vegetable farmers in Goronyo, Rabah, Wurno, Kware, Tambuwal, Wamakko, Silame, Kebbe, Sokoto and Shagari local government areas.''
Tambuwal said the government would continue to explore avenues to enhance water management, especially in the two major dams in the state.
``This is to mitigate flooding and its negative consequences, and at the same time, improve wet and dry season farming.''
